How concreters in Sydney split the work
Concrete jobs look alike from the street, but they are built differently. A footpath, a garage slab and a commercial loading bay all start with excavation, base, formwork, reinforcement and a pour, yet the thickness, the strength of the concrete, the joints and the finish change with the load each one carries and the way water moves across it.
That is why each service below has its own page. Each explains how the job is normally built in Sydney conditions, the decisions you will be asked to make, the approvals that sometimes apply, and a checklist of what the written quote should cover.
Residential concrete work
Most of what we arrange is around the house:
- Concrete driveways, from removing a cracked old driveway to pouring a new one in plain, coloured or exposed aggregate, including the council crossover where the quote covers it.
- Concrete slabs for sheds, garages, carports, patios and alfresco areas, plus structural slabs for extensions and granny flats built to the engineer's drawings.
- Concrete footpaths down the side of the house, to the front door, the clothesline and the back gate, laid so water runs away from the walls.
- Pool surrounds in exposed aggregate or honed concrete, with slip resistance suited to wet bare feet.
- Polished concrete for living areas, kitchens and alfrescos, from grind and seal to full mechanical polish.
Walls, cutting and commercial work
- Concrete retaining walls: concrete sleeper and steel post walls, block walls and poured walls, all with drainage behind them.
- Concrete saw cutting: control joints in new pours, cut-outs for drains and pipes, and straight cuts before part of a slab is removed.
- Commercial concrete driveways: strata driveways, shop entries, car parks and loading bays designed for trucks and staged around trading.
What every job has in common
Whatever the job, the same few things decide whether concrete lasts:
- The ground underneath. Clay, sand and sandstone each need different preparation, and Sydney has all three.
- The base. Road base laid and compacted in layers gives the slab an even, firm platform.
- Reinforcement in the right place. Mesh or bar on chairs, not lying on the dirt.
- Falls and drainage. Water must go somewhere other than the house.
- Joints. A planned place for the concrete to crack, cut or tooled at the right time.
- Curing. Keeping the new concrete moist and protected while it gains strength.
A quote that is silent on any of these leaves room for a cheaper job than the one you think you are paying for.
Areas we cover
We arrange concrete work across the Sydney metro. Our area pages for the Inner West, Eastern Suburbs, North Shore, Hills District and Western Sydney describe the ground and housing in each and what that means for concrete.
Prices
Price ranges live on one page so they can be kept current: see the Sydney concrete price guide. Every job is still priced after an on-site measure.
Booking more than one job
Many enquiries combine two or three jobs, such as a new driveway, a side path and a shed slab. Pouring them together usually saves on trucks, pumps and set-up. Tell us everything you are thinking about when you call, and ask for each item to be priced on its own line so you can trim the scope later without starting again.

Questions people ask before they commit
Can one concreter do several jobs at once?
Often, yes. A driveway, side path and shed slab poured on the same day share the truck, pump and set-up, which can save money compared with separate visits. Ask for each part to be priced on its own line.
Do you do residential and commercial concreting?
Both. Most enquiries are residential, but we also arrange commercial driveways, car parks, loading areas and hardstand for strata, retail and light industrial sites.
Do you supply concrete only, without labour?
No. We arrange concreting jobs with the labour included. If you only need a load of concrete delivered, a concrete supplier is the right call.
What should I send with my enquiry?
The suburb, a rough size, photos of the area and the access, and what is there now. Mention any slope, nearby pits, trees or boundary walls, and whether the work needs to match existing concrete.
